Bluebird Friday, a stormy weekend and an empty bluebird Tuesday

Wow. What a start to the season!

Friday brought us the season’s first pow day, and what a glorious day it was! Dry, blower pow and sunshine.

Storms over the weekend, and Disney opened on Sunday offering a nice change from Lincoln laps.

Tuesday was once again sunny and bluebird!  Patrol worked their asses off and we were treated to tons of new terrain. Sugar Bowl, the Sisters and Silver Belt all opened for the first time this season. So exciting to see all those gates open!

And… 5 (?!) feet on the way this weekend. Saturday looks like positively brutal blizzard conditions, not sure even this die-hard storm skier will brave that.  Sugar is top-notch when it comes to operating in storm conditions but I don’t know what lifts they’ll be able to run Saturday.  I wouldn’t be surprised if it was just Jerome, Tree and Nob.

Ready for more snow?

Sugar sure has seen a lot of sunshine lately. This weekend’s snow should bury a few more rocks and level out these deep moguls on Rahlves. Will Disney open?

Last-minute Lincoln Loss

Opening day is here!  Lincoln was scheduled, but now it is out for the day, leaving us with… Jerome… and Tree?  This is going to be a shitshow…

Cave Party!

Alas, it is closing weekend.

To celebrate a great season on the mountain, as well as our failure to post regularly, we’re throwing an unofficial party in Disney cave.

Base building

What was that I said?  I’ll post more often?  I can be such a slacker.

It sure has been a great season compared to the last few years.  The last couple weeks since the start of the year haven’t seen any huge, epic storms.  But we’ve had a lot of little ones, and day after day they’ve really been piling up the base.  On more than one occasion I’ve dusted an inch or two off my car in town and then skied a foot at the Bowl.

Things are filling in more lots more than I’ve been used to for ages.  Places that were scary are getting easier.  Whole little cliff lines that have been exposed for years are buried now.

Coming up we have more snow arriving Tuesday and Friday into Saturday.  Tuesday could be on the smaller and wetter side, but the second storm looks bigger and colder.
